As people grow old and progress in society, generations come and go in a neighborhood. A regular update is good to see how to make a neighborhood relevant to the times and exciting to future generations. What are some ways to explore neighborhood development? Share information about your place.
1. Asset Mapping
Document
what you have in the neighborhood. Make an inventory of information about
people, culture, history, streets, food, places, collectibles, landmarks,
churches, schools, plazas, mall, clothing, etc.
2. Community
Get together
with neighbors by interests or background. Some neighborhoods have association
of homeowners, plant lovers, bikers, book lovers, coin collectors, merchants,
etc.
3. Programs
Brainstorm
ideas to create excitement and interest in the neighborhood. Organize
discussions, get-togethers, feasts, exhibits, tours, campaigns, promotions, and
other meaningful activities for everyone including elderly, children, women,
and persons with disabilities.
4. Design Guide
Check local
ordinances that help keep the neighborhood clear, orderly, and beautiful. Share
them to visitors and younger generations. Discuss possible improvements to stay
relevant in the future.
5. News feature
Keep locals
and supporters updated with what is happening in the community to stir and
maintain interest and inspiration. This can be through email newsletters,
blogs, short videos, and other forms of journal and media for communication.
What happens
when we do not update regularly? We fear of memory forgotten and lost heritage
of how inspirational our grandparents have been in being progressive citizens.
Keep the chain going and pass to each generation.
