RISING FROM THE ASHES: The New Quinta Market

Its been a while since we last heard any updates on the construction of the "New Quinta Market" some say it was all fluff and filler, while others say its something worth the wait.
RECALL

It was last year of July 27, when demolition works started after sealing a private joint venture between the Manila local government and Market Life Leasing Corp to construct a new two-storey (with rooftop parking) Quinta market worth 90 million pesos. One of Mayor Erap's programs to "Revive" Manila is to privatize the public markets for better quality and maintenance and to ignite a commercial hub, bringing life to the surrounding area.Of course this stirred anger towards the vendors of said market, claiming that the privatization would mean higher rent fees not affordable to most, hurting their business and livelihood. The Mayor promised that true renters of the old market will stay and the fees will remain the same. More than 200 vendors were relocated to orange tents while the construction is ongoing. Scuffles were reported but the demolition pushed through.

Just recently we discovered that a video render of what the market would like was posted on Youtube by user "Erap Estrada" (probably an employee) You can check the video for yourself here

We took some screenshots of the video to emphasize key features of the new market.

New clean facade.A drastic change from Quinta's old design

Open Fish Port that will invite more activity from Navotas and other ports into the Pasig River.

Organized vending. Praying it stays this way.

Rooftop parking. Better have good security up there.

There was a report that the demolished Quinta Market was considered heritage. It is
important to take note that sometime during Lito Atienza's term as mayor, his beautification program of Manila included heavy renovations of the dilapidated Quinta Market. So in fairness to Erap, theres little chance that what he had torn down were of 50 years of age.

We look forward to this new development and how it will contribute to a better people-friendly environment of Quiapo and a better image of what Quinta Market was once known to be. But most of all, we hope the place looks better in finish than in render. Do you think it was a right move to privatize the market or not?
