Last Known Binukot in Panay Bukidnon Tribe of Calinog has passed away

The last known binukot ( Kept maiden) of their line has passed away.  Panay Bukidnon Tribe of Calinog, Iloilo. Rosita "Lapaz" Caballero passed away last July 28, 2017 at the aged of 73.

Binukot is the practice of keeping a child away from the public eye at a very young age and treated as the princess of the tribe. - she is not allowed to work and learns instead embroidery called Panubok, plays musical instruments made of bamboo, depicts the movement of banog bird thru binanog dance and shares the story of suguidanon (epics of panay) by chanting-an oral tradition.

May the younger generation still continue what the elders have started. Let the living culture and tradition, our country's treasure, be preserved and be valued as it defines our root. May her soul rest in peace.

Let's help one another in preserving their rich culture and tradition. Be an IP Advocate.
