Did you know that Kapampangan sculptor Willy Layug of Betis carved this wooden bas relief of St. James the Moor Slayer (Matamoros) adorning the main gate of Fort Santiago in Intramuros?

He did it in 1981 when he was barely out of his teens. His work replaced the original which was destroyed during World War II.

Today Willy Layug is the country's top woodcarving artist, a presidential awardee, a best actor at the MMFF (for "Dukit") and subject matter of an upcoming coffee-table book!
