Aklatan sa Kapitbahayan

The 1,200 to 120 project is a book drive launched by the Kapitbahayan sa Kalye Bautista as the main feature of the 120th anniversary of the 1895 Spanish-period Boix House in Quiapo, Manila. The project will run for 4 months, or for a total of 120 days from 26 April to the anniversary date on 24 August. The ultimate deliverable of the project is a library which will be known as the "AKLATAN NG KAPITBATAHAN."
As what the name of the project suggests, 1,200 book titles are targeted.




The purpose of the library is to serve as a center for the promotion of arts, culture and heritage, and thus will contain books related to those fields. The library is entrance fee-free will benefit children, out-of-school youth, and college students. The library is also expected to generate additional promotion for for the house, for its eventual full-restoration, the owners of which is the Religious Order of the Philippine Province of the Society of Jesus. The library will be housed on the sala of the house.

The book drive will rely on donations from generous individuals and on the corporate social responsibility arms of private corporations. A total of 1,200 books are targeted by 24 August, and a total of PHP 10,100.00 will be solicited for the procurement of uniform book shelves, tables and chairs.
